You know what sucks?? Paying $500 to find out that your car is dead. That sucks. So now I'm carless and I start classes in a week. Oh well, my band played a kick ass show in Owosso for the 3 people that were there. The only bummer was there was only 3 people there, but the guy who runs the place like us, so that's good. We play Baker Rocks! in about a month, there should be a good turnout for that and we're gonna rock the place. Time for bed... |

Lots of stuff to write about...
First, HELL YEAH PISTONS!!!! Not only did they beat the Lakers, they destroyed them. That was the first 5 game sweep ever. LA shouldn't have one game 2 and everyone knows that.
One of my favorite bands, Creed, broke up a couple weeks ago. That's probably a good thing actually. Now Scott Stapp can concentrate on trying to be the next Messiah. The other 3 guys formed a new band called Alter Bridge and I heard their first single today, holy shit it kicks ass. Mark Tremonti shreds like no other on it. It's obvious to see where the talent in Creed was. I can't wait for that cd to come out.
My car turned 200,000 miles today. Here's hoping it'll last 200,000 more cause I can't afford a new car anytime soon.
I got a digital camera on ebay the other day, it's so sweet. It's not a name brand camera, but oh well, I got it really cheap and it takes really good pictures.
I definitely need to get strap locks for my guitar. The strap came loose the other day and I couldn't catch the guitar in time. It hit the ground hard right where the cord goes into the input jack and it bent the hell out of it. Now my input jack is kinda touchy. That sucks because it's an expensive guitar.
I think that just about does it... |

And I decided that I'm going to sleep... |

| Stupid cops... |
[Jun. 9th, 2004|11:13 am] |
So it's about 12:30 last night, I took a break at work to go get something to eat from McDonald's. Everything's cool, no one is around so I make a lane change without using my signal (which is broken by the way), next thing I know, I'm being pulled over. The cop didn't believe that I was coming from work at first, then he asked why my eyes were bloodshot and asked if he could search my car. I guess he finally believed me when I told him to "help himself" and search my car. I couldn't believe that, but at least he didn't give me a ticket.
I decided not to sleep today. I got home from work and decided I didn't feel like wasting the day sleeping. This should be interesting seeing as how the LU acoustic jam in Brighton is tonight, as long as it doesn't storm like it's supposed to. Nate and I are gonna go and jam out some stuff, it'll be cool. I'm always getting paranoid that one day the guys in the band are gonna call me up and say they don't want to do it anymore. I always feel that I'm way more into it than everyone else (except Jim, cause I know that he's into it), but maybe that's just cause I don't know the other guys quite well enough yet. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Jim and I had about 8 bands semi-put together before this one and they all fell apart for one reason or another. Last Friday's practice helped a lot, we wrote a kick ass song and it was good to get back at it after 2 weeks off. Anyway, I think I'm just being stupid and paranoid for worrying about it so much.
I sent my resume to an automotive company in Jackson yesterday that has an immediate summer internship open. That would be awesome if I got it, but it would be kinda bad at the same time. For one, it's in Jackson which is about 60 miles away, but hell I'm used to long drives. I'd be going back to working 5 days a week which means I wouldn't get to spend very much time with Jessica :( and band practice time would be significantly reduced until school starts in the fall. The only way I think I would do it is if it pays a lot more than I make right now, which I'm willing to bet it doesn't. Last night I was really excited about it, but the more I think about it, my schedule is pretty sweet the way it is. Anyway, I'm rambling, maybe I should sleep after all... |

| What day is it? |
[Jun. 2nd, 2004|09:04 am] |
Man, I don't think I'll get used to these 12 hour shifts all summer. It didn't help that I had Sunday off and only worked half a night Monday. Oh well. Needless to say, I'm tired...
I hope we can have band practice today, it's been over 2 weeks and that's just too long. Got lots of new song ideas to work with too. Jim sent me the video from our first show and that got me real pumped up about the band. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the website and shit. I wanna get that up soon.
I heard the new Velvet Revolver cd yesterday. I was kinda worried, Audioslave had kinda soured me on these "supergroups," with how much they suck and all, but damn, Velvet Revolver kicks some major ass. In my opinion, the sum of the parts in Velvet Revolver is much greater than Audioslave. I'm sure everyone's gonna disagree with me here, but give me STP and GnR over Rage and Soundgarden any day. Hopefully Weiland can stay off drugs long enough for Velvet Revolver to be successful.
Damn, I just wrote another song. It's weird, sometimes I couldn't write to save my life, and other times I can't keep up with the ideas. Now, let's hope I don't forget it... |

| Damn alarm clocks |
[May. 26th, 2004|04:35 pm] |
So I got home from work at about 7:30 this morning and was just gonna take a nap for a couple hours. I set my alarm clock and I thought it didn't go off, but apparently it went off and I had no idea I hit snooze 8 times. So I slept through band practice, but I guess the guys weren't planning on it cause they didn't call me so no big deal. We really do need to practice more though. It's been over a week and that sucks. I got lots of new song ideas.
I got my old phone back finally and then I realized that I lost a shitload of numbers that I put into the loaner phone. I was kinda pissed about that. I bought the new Slipknot cd today. It's interesting... Not bad, but not what you'd expect from Slipknot. Slipknot isn't supposed to play acoustic guitars!! It kinda has a Metallica St. Anger feel to it. Overall I'd say it's pretty good, good guitar work, who knew the guys could shred like that.
I'm trying to decide if I wanna go to Guitar Center tomorrow or Friday. They have this deal where you can trade in your old gear for new gear. I'm thinking about seeing what I can get for my stuff, I have a bunch of old distortion pedals, an old amp, and an old guitar I could possibly trade. I really want the Boss ME-50 effects processor and seeing as how it's $300 I think this is my best bet at getting it. And I think I'm gonna go to the LU show at Great Escape tomorrow night, I gotta start doing more shit for the LU and supporting it more. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SCENE!!
So I've realized I update this thing about every week or so and when I do I write forever. Maybe I'll start updating every day... Probably not, I'm too lazy. |

So I went to band practice today only to find out there was no band practice. Nate left me a voicemail that I didn't get saying him and Bill couldn't practice. Oh well, shit happens.
Bought the Smile Empty Sould cd today, it's pretty good. Now I'm sitting here trying to clean my room, unsuccessfully. It's real nice knowing that I don't have to work until Sunday.
If anyone who reads this was at the LU show on the 7th and has some pictures, let me know, I'd like to see them. Plus we need some pictures to put up on the website that my sister is designing, hopefully she's almost done with it. |

[May. 14th, 2004|03:28 am] |
So I'm finally home after all the craziness of last week. I had an exam, had to move out of my dorm, unload all my stuff back home, my band played a show, went to dinner with some friends, then had to drive up to Mt. Pleasant to help Jessica move out all in the same day. Then the next day we did lots and lots of moving, the next day was filled with unpacking and furniture moving. I started my job for the summer the following day putting in two 12 hour shifts Monday and Tuesday nights before finally getting some much needed time off. Now that I'm home and things are somewhat situated, life will be a lot easier.
As for the show. It was ok, not as good as the first one, but it was ok. It was obvious that we hadn't practiced for over a week, but what else can you expect for a new band like us. (Arizing kicked some major ass. Best local band I've ever seen.) In retrospect those shows were probably a little too early for where we're at, but they were a really good experience. We're getting our name out there (even though we're changing it) and it's helping me get over my anxiety of playing in front of a crowd. I seem to get real nervous right before we go on, but calm down as we start playing. I'm sure it'll get better once we practice more and get our shit together and write some songs that we're all into 100%.
Yesterday we had band practice, it kinda sucked cause Nate didn't have a PA and Zeke couldn't make it, but Bill and I jammed out some stuff anyway. We played 3 of our current songs and worked on some new material. The guys wanna either trash or rework our other 3 songs, which I understand. One song though I wanna keep the way it is. The other 2 I have no problem with redoing, in fact I've already been working on some ideas. I don't want to trash them altogether because I think they're good songs, they just need some work so they don't follow the same pattern. Zeke came up with the name "Centerline" for the band, which I really like and am gonna push for. Look for a website (designed by my sister) to be up soon. Hopefully we'll record a track for the LU compilation cd in the next month or so, but first we need to figure out what song we wanna do.
I hung out with Steve and Schemke tonight which was really cool cause I haven't seen either of them for a long ass time. Now that I'm home for the summer I plan on seeing a lot of the friends that I haven't in the last couple months. For some, it's been too damn long.
Anyway, this post is getting kinda long, and it's almost 4 in the morning. Bed time. |

| Exams suck, but my band rules!!! |
[May. 5th, 2004|11:40 am] |
After constant pestering from my sister, I gave in and started this journal. Who knows how often I'll write in it, or if I'll write in it at all, but oh well.
This week is exam week, and holy crap does it suck. I'm completely burned out and have no attention span for studying, which is really bad because I need to do well on all of my exams. If anyone can give me a crash course in thermodynamics, materials science, and electrical circuits it would be much appreciated.
I think Jim and I finally settled on a band name. Right now we're called Falls Apart but we found out there's another band with that name so we gotta change it. We were decided on what we were gonna change it too, but then we talked it over and Jim came up with a new one, which I think is awesome. If you wanna know what it is, you're gonna have to come to our show this Friday at the Howell Rec Center. I think doors are at 6:00 and it's $5 to get in. Here's the lineup:
Iffycast 630-700 Even the Odd 715-745 Falls Apart 8-830 Kid Gib 845-915 Arizing 930-10 Hate the Radio 1015-1045
It's our second show and we are gonna own that place, so BE THERE!!! Hopefully we'll have a website up soon and Jim and I are gonna go check out a recording studio next week. Look for big things to be happening all summer long. That's about it for now. Later. |
